As I'm sitting here clicking through my old photos I'm overwhelmed by a sense of nostalgia. For a short period as I glance at each of these photos I'm transported to a different time and place. I feel the sensation of home.
Now I'm from the Midwest Nebraska country side as you may or may not know.
When I think of home yes-I think of golden wheat and corn fields, fishing through sunset at the lake, dirt roads, and barbecues with friends-I think most people would think of home as a location and long for it (and yes I do long for my Nebraska climate and beautiful landscapes sometimes too). But now that I've grown and learned more I think of home much less as a location or place but more of people and memories I've made with them. When I think of home I think of my hubby and pudgy beagle waiting for me to get off work, or my best friend in Nebraska who would come over early on Sundays so we could have breakfast before going into work together, or this one night at the lake roasting marshmallows over a campfire talking with my closest on what life would be like in 5 years.
These people featured in this post were with me through my childhood (more so my teens and early 20's) and arguably my most confusing/scary/fun/memorable years. They are the people who shaped me into who I am today, and I'd like to think I've done them all proud. When I flip through these photographs I see my friends and the memories we made and the years frozen in time and I'm home.
This is why I got into photography-to capture the moments that seem to slip us by before we even know it no matter how insignificant they seem at the time.
You will never be who you are right now, as you're reading this.
That in itself is priceless.
Enjoy!
xoxo,
Alycia Dawn
